April 18

Bonjour tout le monde!

It's already creeping up to the end of April. Where has this year gone!? I am welcoming this beautiful weather we are having!

Just a few quick updates of what we have going on in the classroom this week...
Oral Language - Listening and Speaking -- PLEASE encourage your child to be speaking in French in the classroom at all times. Using the vocabulary learned in class is the BEST way to strengthen understanding and further help with reading. You may also find French resources on YouTube, Television, or the Radio to support hearing the French language at home. At this point in Grade One, students should be speaking in French at all timesReading: I have completed GB+ assessments with each student. I am very happy with how our reading is coming along. PLEASE continue to work on basic reading strategies at home every night to help support your child's reading.
     - pointing to each word, sounding out each letter out loud, re-reading, using pictures, etc.
Writing: We are finishing up with Narrative writing this week. We have focused on generating and organizing ideas and developing vocabulary for our Narratives. We have focused on the "who, what, when, where, problem, and solution" for our stories.
Math: We are finishing up with our Number Sense and Numeration unit. We have worked with Number Lines, Base 10 manipulatives, ten frames, money, anchors of 5 and 10 and adding doubles. This week we will be investigating halves and quarters as an introduction to fractions.
Please work on addition and subtraction strategies such adding doubles and anchors of 5 and 10 (ie. 12 is the same as 5+5+2 or 10+2). Please continue to work on skip counting and identifying numbers on the hundreds chart that was sent home.

This week we have the Jump Rope Kick Off on Wednesday afternoon and we have 3 different presentations on Thursday! What a week!
Thank you for the continued support of your child's education. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
